Hi All,

I have a broody hen who has been sitting on a clutch of eggs. Today one of them hatched,
my local feed store is out of chick feed. What can I feed the little on for a few days till
the feed comes in?

thanks

If the local feed store has Grower crumbles, or Gamebird Grower crumbles, either would be just fine. So would an All Flock crumble or Flock Raiser crumble.

For a day or two, the newly hatched chicks don't eat anything. It takes until day three or four for them to have much interest in food. You can probably get back to the feed store over that period of time

Meanwhile, for a very, very short term, scrambled eggs, mixed with grits or fine oatmeal, cream of wheat, or cornbread meal will tide you over.

Ok, thanks!! I called, they said that would have some more chick feed tomorrow. It hatched yesterday, so hopefully
by tomorrow I will be able to get it in time for the little one to be ready to eat.

I would put the mama and the chicks on grass but the weather here has been so rainy that it would not be
a good idea.

Thanks again
