Not such a harmonious integration...

Hiya,
I mixed my two silkie flocks last night ready for this morning. One flock has three mature girls and the other has three girls and a rooster at 5 months, all flocks the same body size.

The hens seem ok with each other- mild pecking. But my rooster is flying into wild attacks with the older girls and now he's bleeding!

It only happens when I'm not there so they know who's boss. But unless I grow feathers and start laying eggs I'll have to leave them at some point!

Any advice?

Mix up the girls and put in two separate pens for them. Add lots of treats for them, they would rather have them than go on a pecking spree. Stop integration if it doesn't work now! so no one gets hurt. The blood will cause him to be picked on. GET HIM out before it continues more. Put blue kote on wounds and don't try putting back in until no more bleeding. Once he's healed up. Put him with one pen, where he can be "the leader of the three" and then add the others back.

Hi thanks for the advice :)

I didn't pick it up til now but I'm happy to report that after an initial scuffle on day one he is now very much the boss. I caught him mating one of the older girls and all our eggs are fertilised now so they're one big happy family!

Thanks for your time to reply :)

Emma
