3 coloured Exchequer Leghorn Rooster?

I bought him at about 10 weeks as an exchequer. At that age he looked like an exchequer. But at about 15/16 weeks he started to develop Mahogny feathers. Is he a pure bred exchequer? Can exchequers sometimes develop a 3rd colour? If he is a cross, what is he likely to have been crossed with?

Not nessciarily, I can't say if this rooster has major leakage or is a cross bred, becuase I dont know enough of his background. The only thing that makes me questions wether is pure or not is his coloring, which very well could be a severe case of leakage. Leakage is when for example you breed a cockerel with color leakage to a hen and the off spring has it too. Some offspring might not have it, but if they are then bred again could possibly pass to its off spring (i'm pretty sure on that part anyways lol).
Here is a picture, its not mine actually a fellow BYCers. He is a pure black ameaucana. See the gold leakage in his neck near his head. this isnt a terrible case of it. I am not exactly sure how the leakage orginally comesabout, genetics can do some pretty wacky stuff. Now he can not be show and shouldn't bebred, but some people do. She also had a picture of some of his male offspring that had way more leakage than the dad, but I can't find the picture.

So is he a cross breed? I cant tell you. Don't know enough about his parents and other factors
 
Thanks CCCC. I did not know about leakage. Personally I think it is probably leakage rather than a cross, because the person I bought them from had a few breeds she was breeding from, but nothing that could have cross bred with an exchequer to give this colouring which I could see. Also I read somewhere else online about a person who had an exchequer who developed mahogany feathers also and was as confused as me.

I'm not fussed though as I'm not planning on breeding from him and I'd say he looks much better with this unique colouring than a normal exchequer.
 
He does look purebred to me also. Actually, I think the leakage is beautiful.

I have a black purebred Araucana rooster with gold leakage. I am using him over barred rocks and cuckoo marans hens to make olive egger pullets. ALL of the resulting pullets are black. ALL of the cockerals have varying degrees of gold or silver leakage. One in particular was gorgeous with silver hackles and saddle feathers with black breast and leg feathers.

in my experience I have never had female offspring with leakage t has always been the malw offspring. But I wasnt sure if that was always going to be the outcome so i didnt add it in.
