Bobcat attack!

Thanks for your post - and the update later. One of my girls "Noodle" was attacked today and reading this is giving me encouragement.
I've created a small pen for her in the house to keep her warm and separated from the others. She is definitely in shock- just sitting or standing there making sad cooing noises. There is a small amount of blood on her comb- which I cleaned with warm water- but I don't want to pick it off in case it reopens a wound. Her wings seem fine- but after closer inspection I do see a puncture wound on her upper back near her neck- she's obviously lost a lot of feathers there too. It's not bleeding, and I've cleaned it and put on some neosporin. Also- one of her eyes is swollen and shut- but no other obvious injuries in that area. I wonder what else I should do- I'm just beside my self and all I can do is stand there and stare at her. I hope she makes it through the night!

Sorry about your hen. I would keep her warm as you are doing, and place water and food nearby. She needs to rest tonight. Tomorrow, I would try to offer her water up to her beak--adding vitamins and electrolytes to the water may help. lso give her some scrambled egg to interest her in eating. Terramycin ointment, vetericyn eye gel, or plain Neosporin ointment can be applied to the inside of he swollen eye twice a day. It is sometimes hard to tell which birds will recover, but the one I had that was attacked who didn't have a scratch didn't make it. Some who get really bad wounds can do well. You should be able to tell in the next day or two if she perks up, is alert, and eating well, she should be okay. Good luck with her.
