recreating the silver welbar autosexing breed

I have seen some "Rhodebars" that could pass as welbars. If you go about making it from scratch, you might get lucky (in your case) and find the barred rocks carry silver. I was working on an autosexing EE project which I wanted a welbar colored bird in the end but instead had all silver versions pop out.

Here is the chart that is generally used, in your case substitute leghorn with welsummer.

I got my silver welbar from http://eightacresfarm.weebly.com/ in Florida. They aren't listed on her website b/c they are a project she is working on. She is still in a molt in this pic, so her feathering isn't as nice as it normally is. She is a gorgeous bird, she does have a little gold on her chest feathers, but othwise all silver/grey.

Yes, I am working on Welbars in both Silver and Gold LF, as well as Silver Duckwing. I am at the F3 stage with some of them. Here are 3 F2 pullets, solids on the outside and barred in the middle.

Egg color is respectable...Top row is a full Welsummer egg on the left and 3 different Silvers eggs on the right-

Glad to see someone else is working on Welbars. Just started this year with Welsummer male on Barred Rock females. I will run to totally different lines. First line is out of commercial Barred Rocks and the second line will be out of my really good APA Heritage Barred Rocks.

I know this is an old post but going to try my chances :)

Have started breeding Welbars and have my first cross from Welsummer rooster and Plymouth hen. This lot are around 7 months of age. Just looking at this table - is that correct all the black chicks will be pullets and the bars will be cockerels. Knowing the answer to this will allow me to start culling from an earlier age.

I am not large scale so having the room is why I need to cull early. Thanks heaps for any light you can shed on the breeding table.
