old thread, new info
our local southern states got their chicks from My Healthy. I have 2 EEs and 3 Marans from this spring along with 8 heritage RIRs I hatched myself. the hatchery hens are the poorest laying chickens I have ever had. 2 of the 3 Marans have layed no more than a dozen eggs apiece and quit a month ago, the other layed decent but has no quit. one EE that is even more of a mutt than normal (looks like a game hen) has layed very well and is still laying, the other has been like the 2 marans.
all the while, the RIRs are laying extremely well, better than I expected from a heritage line
just my comments, don't mean to run anyone down, but not too impressed
the best EE layers I have ever had were Murray McMurray
