Hello everyone - I just joined the BYC a few minutes ago and cannot believe the information available on here.
I plan to raise about 8 chickens for the eggs and will be asking a lot of naive questions, I'm sure.
I haven't had close association with chickens since I ran barefoot back in the late 1940's and discovered the real reason God gave us corn cobs.
My mother always had chickens and I was raised eating her eggs chickens every day but I didn't give a lot of attention to the process - our chickens were free range and she just had a roosting place and a few nesting boxes set up in the smoke house. At the time I hated them because of the aforementioned corn-cob-intensive activity that was required.
Now, I have just moved into a new home located on about 3 acres of land in rural Leon County, Texas between Buffalo and Jewitt. My wife wants us to raise some chickens, so I started looking up information and found this site.
I think I will enjoy.
