This is my R. R. that is still in rehab from broken leg ( just before Thanksgiving). Her red color comb, face, and around eyes have turned pale pink and she has lost her appetite once again. I don't know if she is depressed again or what. Any ideas? Thanks

AS I am searching through older post I realized that I should add something. Her poo is dark color w/ out the urine color and all I can see is round undigested grains and such. Can't see any thing like worms. She has recently been dusted with diatom earth as she can't do her own dust bath now. She also is sitting under a heat bulb in one corner of the pen.

I have the same thing with one of my Buff Orpingtons. I would love to hear what people have to say about the comb and flesh parts turning pale in color and won't eat.

I would treat for worms but I would use something other then Wazine. That will only get roundworms and there are many more worms chickens can get. I'd use Safeguard, the liquid for goats is easy to administer, or even better, Valbazen. Make sure you repeat the dose in 10 days. I would check her very carefully for mites or lice as well. This could be a lot of things but you have to start somewhere and those are the most common and most easily treated possbilities so it's best to start by ruling those out first.

How much of the goat Safeguard do you give?
It depends on the weight of your chicken. It contains 100mg per ml. The dosage for most worms is 20mg per each 2.2 lb of weight., so around 1/4 ml for a bantam, 1/2 ml for a 6-7 lb chicken, and 3/4 ml for a larger chicken. For treating gapeworm or tapeworm, the dosage would by 50mg per each 2.2 lb daily for 3 straight days, skip 10 days , then repeat for 3 straight days. It is pretty safe to use.
