This was a spreadsheet I put together for myself like 3 years ago when I was first trying to figure out peafowl color genetics (it should still be accurate, but just in case there's something off, I have it set so anyone can view/comment).

I've had a few people request copies, but I realized that now instead of sending a copy to anyone who wants it (because there weren't good permanent hosting options then), Google Drive supports XLS uploads! So now it can be accessible to everyone anytime.

Peafowl Color Chart

Convention for Punnett Squares (to which your spreadsheet is somewhat akin) has male parent horizontally across the top, and female parent vertically down the side. If you modified your spreadsheet accordingly, you'd be able to make it MUCH smaller in size.

:)

ETA -- also, your results involving Peach and Purple or Cameo are incorrect. Peach male X Purple female = Purple sons split to Peach, and Peach females. Sub Cameo for Purple and the equation remains true.

One more ETA -- males split to Peach will also have a few Purple and Cameo daughters, even if those males are not visually Purple or Cameo. I addressed this on your sticky about genetics a while back.

Hello there! I have never posted on here before, but I have a question about a pea chick that I have, and it seemed this may be the best place to find the answer. I have a general understanding of peafowl genetics, but I must say, my understanding is pretty basic. I've hatched an egg from a (supposed) Java Imperator, and a white peahen. I'm guessing that the java, was really just a high % Spaulding, but for arguments sake, if a true Java mates a white, does that result in Spaulding split to white chicks? I may be way off base, but I can't seem to find any info on the java cross. I realize that it can be somewhat frowned upon, and I assure you these babies are just my pets... My curiosity is just peaked. The chick is a shade or two lighter than the inda blue who was hatched at the same time. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you!!!

Hi! First I would like to say there isn't such a thing as a Java Imperator. There are three subspecies. The Javanese and the Imperators (Indo-Chinese) are two separate subspecies unless if you were saying it is a bird that has both Java and Indo-Chinese blood.

If a pure Javanese (Pavo muticus muticus) mates with a white, yes all offspring will be Spalding peafowl and they will be split to white birds just like you said. In genetics pure green peafowl will work about the same as India Blues. The only difference is when breeding for Spaldings, some Spalding offspring will look more like a green peafowl and some will look more like a blue peafowl. For example some will have more defined scaled neck feathers while others will have less defined scale feathers, etc.

Hope this helps!

Now I'm really curious about what they meant by JAVA imperator????

I bought the eggs off of eBay, so who knows... I'll try to post a pick of what the ad said, and perhaps you will have some insight :)

Perhaps it was just meant to grab the attention of the less knowledgable! Well, It worked!!! Lol!

And this is the cutie that hatched! Definitely wasn't expecting the few white feathers on only one wing. It just peaks my curiosity even more! Regardless of what he or she is, he will be loved!

It is wonderful to know that there is a place with such a great group of knowledgable people! I really don't know many people who have experience with peafowl, so I am grateful to know there is a place like this to go for help :)

What it means is, If the dad is in the photo and he was with white hens then the baby is a spalding. The white flights is a sign that the hens where white and your chick is split white, (carries one copy of white) If you make this chick with another split white some of there chicks will be White. ( they will have two copies of white).

I had a quick genetics question. I am kind of lost when it comes to the genetics. I had thought a silver pied female with a blackshoulder male would make IB looking chicks with white flights. So far that's what I have gotten although they are a little lighter than the reg IB's. I figured that was from the white eye gene. This last hatch though I got one with a yellow spot on it's head, it looks like the rest other than that, light IB with half his wings white. I had thought you needed 2 copies of pied/sp to get pied/sp. Was I wrong and can you get pied from SP and BS? Do you think the spot will color in when he gets his feathers or is he pied? I'll put a picture of him (we are calling him Zaphod). It's not the best picture, I just snapped it with my phone.
