So, I finally got my mom to agree to eat my farm fresh eggs. She was apprehensive about eating eggs from such pretty birds, and I was so happy she would finally try them. She typically microwaves an egg or two a day, so I've found out. She got the eggs home I gave her today, put two in the microwave for about 20 seconds and they instantly exploded. She now believes my eggs contain grenades because "store eggs never do this."

Any idea why fresh eggs (that are actually HEALTHIER) would be more likely to explode in the microwave?

Nope, she cooked them the same way she always does. Breaks the eggs into a cup (unscrambled) and cooks them for 30 seconds. She said it only made it to about 20 seconds and exploded. The eggs were still runny when she took them out - at least what wasn't splattered all over the microwave, and they weren't fully cooked yet.

She's never had this happen before in the 7 months she's been doing this most every day.

My family eats these eggs everyday and we're so happy to have fresh eggs! Never had an issue, but we don't microwave eggs either.

I did research it and I see that eggs can explode in the microwave, I just find it odd that fresh farm eggs would react differently than the ones sitting on store shelves.

My guess is that she didn't prick the yolk with a fork and that is what exploded. Your eggs are fresher, so the yolks hold together better. If you compared them side by side, you would see that the store yolks are looser and not as high and firm as the fresh eggs.

I always prick the yolks before I microwave my eggs and have never had one explode :)

Just my unscientific assessment of the situation!

Thank you! I will suggest that and hopefully she won't be terrified of them.

I'm also thinking it's the freshness factor. Fresh eggs have more moisture in them, that could have something to do with it. Maybe she needs to let your eggs age a few days before eating them, like with peeling boiled eggs.

I have had it happen with store bought eggs, but its because I didn't poke the yolk. Hopefully she will get over her fear as I am sure your eggs taste 1000x better!

Yep, sure are. She's now scrambling the yolks and everything is going fine. :)
