I'm sure it's been posted a million times but I find I have a hard time since the forum style changed searching for stuff (I don't adjust well lol) Anyways...

I was talking with a fellow a few years back that raised turkeys locally and he SWORE up and down he didn't sell hatching eggs because turkey eggs don't do well when shipped (but all his other birds he did - ducks, quail, etc...)

Honestly - besides the usual troubles with shipping stuff which are known....does anyone else feel like he does? I've been eyeballing sweet grass turkeys here lately and would love to try hatching some out. But I'd like to see what others more experienced in shipped turkey eggs have to say :p THANKS ALL!!!

They ship fine. You just want to make sure that they are less than about two weeks old. Last year I ordered 15 eggs from a private source, and did not specify the two week limit. She wrote the date on all the eggs. I hatched 7 of 8 less than two weeks old, but only 1of 7 older. They were shipped from Idaho to Minnesota.

Thank you :) I was REALLY hoping to hear they were like about everything else....but then good ol' "Mr Bob" set my mind to worrying lol.....

Shipped eggs have many more variable that can affect them, than if you avoid shipping.
I've at many great hatches with shipped eggs, and many poor. Last year I have 14 Jersey buff eggs
shipped in April, and hatched 9. I consider that a good hatch for shipped eggs.
If you can't find the variety that you want locally your only option is shipped eggs, so you have to take that chance.

Oh yes - with a post office like ours (they steal live birds right out of boxes!) there's so much that can go wrong.....but at least people are having some luck with it. Makes things a little less scary - "Mr Bob" really did tell me that NONE would hatch blah blah blah.....gave me a good lecture on it too! But, he's got his opinions and I understand that part ya know? We all have a point of view we function off of daily right?
