Hey everyone!!! So the past few months I've been researching quite a bit about building a coop and having a few (about 3) chickens for eggs and pets, I love the idea... unfortunately I've read here on the forum that it isn't allowed in Beachwood.

I plan on doing it anyway. I know, it may seem like a bad idea. I don't understand why it isn't allowed, every surrounding town it's allowed. It really amazed me. I have plans for a small coop and only want 3 chickens.

Anyone else live in Beachwood? Anyone else live in a town anywhere in the USA that doesn't allow chicks and you've gotten away with it?

I'm very, very, very excited! And I am so excited I have found this forum, you all are so helpful. Thank you so much!

By the way, my name's Meg, and I'm 25. =]

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, there are members on here that keep chickens anyway, even though they are not allowed. Generally if your neighbors are ok with it, the law will either turn the other way or never find out.

You might want to chat with your chicken neighbors in your state thread to see what is going on around them and if anyone in your neighborhood is keeping chickens...

Hi, Meg, welcome to BYC. chickens on 'the down low' can work if yu have a good relationship with your neighbors. Remember it only takes one complaint.

Lots of people get away with having 'stealth' chickens but, it's really essential to have a plan b- by having another home lined up if the animal control office finds out and tells you to remove them.

Glad you joined us! Try and get the ordinance changed in your town. Start a thread in the Laws section to rally support and get advice from those who've done it before. Good luck!!

I live in Beachwood too, and have been considering getting a couple of chickens. How have you made out? Any fallout from putting in a coop?
