I never had an interest in the showgirls, didn't want one etc. Well now I HAD to have one and hatched 6. They all have the "bowtie" except one. What is the reason for having/not having this? I never paid attention before because "I was never gonna have one of THOSE"

Any info appreciated

Yes, one copy of the gene gives a bowtie, two copies and there's no bowtie. If you breed the one with no bowtie to a non, nn bird, you'll get 100% with a bowtie.

Ok, slow day for my brain

so if I breed the non bow tie to a regular silkie(or a silkie with the nn gene)? I get all bow tie? Please bear with me

oh, I will get pics later today(I hope)

Yes, that's correct.

silkie x bowtie sg = 50% silkie, 50% bowtie sg

bowtie sg x bowtie sg = 25% silkie, 50% bowtie sg, 25% no bowtie sg

bowtie sg x no bowtie sg = 50% bowtie sg, 50% non bowtie sg

silkie x no bowtie sg = 100% bowtie sg

another stupid question. What happens if it is bred to a regular silkie, not one that carries the sg gene. Would any hatch as sg?

Hi Krista!
There is no such thing as 'showgirl gene'

If you breed a bow-tie Naked Neck bird to a feather-neck (regular) bird, you'll get half NN chicks and half feather neck chicks.
The Na gene is easy because if a bird has Na, it is obvious. It doesn't hide like some other genes / traits.
You can not get a naked neck chick unless one of the parents is obviously naked neck (be it bow-tied or fully naked necked).
If I call them Naked Neck Silkies, it is easier for me than 'sg'.
Terminology is an issue.

eidted to add: showgirl and sizzle are not part of my vocabulary.
blech... I keep up with all crosses and state all crosses 'as what they are', so there is no confusion.
