If you are interested in certain breeds, also check out the breed threads for them. For instance "Silkie thread," if you want to know who is selling silkies. Or any other breeds - the popular ones usually have their own or several threads . Put the breed name in the search box and see what comes up.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Games chickens have a reputation for aggressiveness, not calmness. If you want calm and gentle birds, Silkies, Orpingtons, Australorps, Brahmas, Cochins, Sussex, and Faverolles all have a reputation for docile and gentle temperaments. I have had all of these at one time or another (except the Faverolle, and I had a neighbor who had them) and they live up to their gentle reputations. I have raised Black Australorps and Buff Orpingtons for many years, and never had an aggressive bird in either breed (although there can always be an exception in any breed). Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
