This little guy or girl is confusing me...

Thank you. I'm not sure myself. He or She has had wattles and a comb longer than the other ones but it seems rather shy to be a cockerel...do all cockerels have pointy tail feathers? This one hardly has any compared to the others and they are curved too. Is that an indication?

Thank you for your reply. What is it about the first one you think makes it look like a pullet? Just so I can try and work out the other ones for myself :)

In general, when they get to this stage, the easy way to confirm is to bend the feathers back about an inch or two in front of the base of the tail and look at the feathers growing in there.

If feathers are skinny and shiny as they grow in, it's a cockerel.

If feathers look pretty much like all the other feathers and aren't pointed, skinny and shiny, it's likely a pullet.

The orange one that I first posted photos of is still being debated as to whether it's a he or a she lol. I was sure it was a pullet (and you all agreed with me) but it has different feathering from the other pullets. It has no pointed hackle feathers round its neck but it does have longer saddle feathers. It doesn't seem to have any sickle feathers but as you can see from the photo I posted before it does have more curly feathers at the back rather than straight. I have a boy in beside it that was hatched at the same time. Can they mature at different rates even if hatched at the same time? The boy is trying to mate and crowed for the first time yesterday but this one hasn't shown any of these signs at all...!!!
