seriously injured silkie chick.. does it have a chance?

Just thought I would drop by and post an update on the silkie. I ended up taking what we thought was a her, but he has actually turned out to be a very good rooster, aside from the crowing. My standard chickens still tried to pick on him, but my bantam hen liked him very much and he's now the proud father of 7 very oddly colored chicks. Sadly his hen was taken a few nights ago, but he's doing very well caring for all of the chicks. His neck never grew back feathers, but his head feathers are so long that it's barely noticeable. This is him and his hen (mean hens in the background). I'll try to get a good picture of his neck next time I'm able to catch him.

There's only a pile of feathers so my friends think it was a fox. She's been sleeping on my bike with her two chicks for the past week but I was gone this weekend. I came home to the chicks sleeping under the rooster and the hen no where to be found. I couldn't catch him, but this is what he looks like now. The chicks shown are his and his hens. No idea though how I ended up with those colors. But he's now their mother until they go to another home.

that's a real shame about the hen. I am glad we don't have foxes here. Hes looking like a fine boy and looks like he takes his job of daddy and now mummy seriously which is good. do you think you will get him another pullet/hen once the babies are gone?

I'm trying to a find another lookalike for him, but most are just chicks this time of year so it's becoming a challenge. Luckily there's a flock swap by me every weekend so I can try looking there.

that's a good idea, we don't have flock swaps here. im sure he will buddy up to something slightly different or even a couple of hens

Yeah. He's getting pretty lonely so he's trying to go after m big hens so I have to keep them locked up or they'll team up and hurts him I want to atleast find him a bantam so he isn't so scared of them like he is with my other two hens.

I just lost my silkie rooster to a fox, and his mate, a sultan bantam, is heartbroken. She left a nest of 9 fertile eggs to look for him. Fortunately, I have a young roo from the pair that looks like a sultan with dark skin to pair her up with. All my birds are up now, and I've got traps out. The fox is causing havoc in my neighborhood, and has taken birds from several people.
