I rescued and released a baby Canadian goose last spring, during the course of his rehabilitation I really grew attached to the little guy. Even made myself a goose costume by painting a baseball cap and stitching it to a ski mask so he'd stay imprinted on his own kind.

He's gone now, joined the fall migration and now that the geese are back and raising little fuzzy footballs of their own, I'm having a huge twinge of separation anxiety. I've rehabilitated tons of wild birds and small mammals, why am I so attached to this one little dude?

Because they just have such precious personalities but you know what you did a great job in getting him to the place of migration, Most likely he's back and with a mate and probably one day will have kids of his own. Is it true Canada geese don't mature sexually until age 3? I read that somewhere.

They reach sexual maturity between 18-24 months, whether or not they mate until year 3 is up to them however. :p He was such a cute little dude! When I have more of a backyard to work with I want to get some Canadian geese of my own. <3

They are so majestic, we have a couple that nest in our mt river and this year they hatched 6. I was so happy for them because the 2 yr prior she lost her nests to flooding.

Oh no! Poor things...there was an inexperienced couple here this spring who made their nest on the bank within feet of a popular biking trail. I was paranoid that she'd get frightened off her nest, but she stuck it out! Now the lake is full of fuzzy footballs, we counted 13 between two pairs!

I heard of breeders out there who sell canada goose eggs, but they're few and far between. I really want a goose or two but I also don't want to have to harvest one from a wild pair.
