Will Corid hurt if they're not actually sick?

I have a silkie chick that had broken his/her wing about a week ago. The chick is acting completely fine now, but a day or 2 ago I noticed his/her poop was red. It was a light shade of red so I thought it was just the intestinal lining being shed. Today the chick's poop has darker red in it, but still acting fine. I decided to treat for cocci just in case with 9.5 ml of Corid. If the chick doesn't actually have cocci will the meds hurt him/her?

The poor baby passed away last night :'( Is it possible the meds could've killed her or was the cocci just too advanced?

Symptoms such as blood in the stool don't show up for 3 days or so into a cocci infection, so she was probably overwhelmed by it or had a very severe strain. Are you treating any other birds that she was with?

Oh, that makes sense. She wasn't with any other birds since her wing was broken, but there were other birds in the same area/room (not same cage). (They weren't in the coop bc the older chickens were hurting and picking on them.) I didn't give them a full treatment of Corid, just a little, but should I give them the full treatment tonight?

I would run a full course of treatment since you had one come down with it. It never, ever hurts to treat for it and give them that added protection while they develop their resistence to it. When it comes to coccidiosis it's always better to be safe then sorry.

Sorry for your loss.

Next time you have one that is that sick you can give it a drop or the Corid orally as well as in the water, that should help. If you have larger birds that you want to treat orally, the dose is .2ml per 2.2 pounds. The math is much easier if you weigh them in grams, which is what I do with all birds now.

A 100 gram chick would get .02ml, which is a very small drop. So just remember that it's .02ml per 100 grams.
