Ok, is it just my flock or does every flock have a complainer?

We have a 4 year old GSL hen that seems to complain about just about anything

We call her Claudette the Complainer.

It's too hot...It's too cold...It's raining...It's windy..Someone is in a nest box ( any nest box - doesn't matter that she hasn't laid an egg in over a year).. the grass in the other "chicken yard" looks greener than this one...I wanted kale today - not spinach...

Been like this since she was only a few weeks old.

It's not all day complaining or even every day for that matter - although Sunday morning when my neighborhood feels like one of those horror movies where you are the only human left on earth... it sure seems louder than normal

She has a pretty spoiled urban chicken lifestyle with 3 other hens that she was raised with. And she is a sweet tempered girl - middle of the pecking order and never any issues with picking on or getting picked on by the others.

Just trying to figure out if every flock has one or if we are one of the "lucky" few to have a resident complainer

Yeah - I've got one too. Out of nine assorted ladies, this one is a lovely Australorp with golden highlights on her chest. She's sweet natured and rather affectionate, but she's also the alarmist of the group.

" wait !!!!! I can't see my flock mates - what'll I DO !? "

"Everyone is drinking water, and there's no room for me - I'm gonna DIE ! "

" Hey girls - it's getting too DARK - we need to get up on the roost - creepy creatures are gonna get us ! " At this point, she'll go in the coop, and then nervously come out again, when the others don't follow immediately ...

Whenever I go out to check on them, she'll be the first to come running over and greet me, so I try to reassure her that life will be ok ...

Her name is ... what else ? "Whiner"

I have a rooster who takes care of everyone, he'll round up all 30 other chickens, and make sure they are in the coop (so long as they are in the run that is) he's a real gentleman and when he sees me coming out always starts gathering the girls to him with a food call, they come from far and wide and meet me at the gate, because of this.

None of the girls seems over whiny, but there is one leghorn, or maybe they trade off (I can't tell them apart) who gives the alarm call if I hang out in the coop to collect eggs. It's also the leghorns who start the egg song, even though my Isa browns are already laying or done for the day when they start.

I have a Lavender Orpington that has been the noisiest one since we got her and she sounds like a crow or hawk. She's always crying.

We've got one that isn't a complainer more than an alarmist, and she's called what else but "Chicken Little." She is the smallest of them all and the lightest shade of the RIRs and she will just turn and run like she has something tasty and the flock will follow, whether or not she has anything at all. Instant Chicken Football game. She's also the first in the coop at any sign of danger much like the one chickchic9 describes... Also the first to the fence when I visit in the mornings.

I have a complainer too!!! My Wellie Beatrice .... Hey I'm awake- LET US OUT.... HEY ladies- here she comes.... HEY- It's HOT.... HEY- LETS GO TO BED!!

Last night I heard all this rucus & went out to the coop.. Bea, was standing on top of the run looking through the window BAWK BAWK BAWKING ...

Now one of my Aussies is starting to make strange noises.... Lol. Guess they are competing to see who's the loudest!! Haha
