Help, please!! This is my first chick out of the incubator, and I think he/she may have a leg or foot deformity? It's 2 days old now, cute as a button, and can't walk. :( I don't know if it hatched early or late... I had a broody hen on the egg and her other eggs hatched before it and she abandoned it. I've seen some people on here correct/straighten feet and legs... I don't know if this is correctable?

This site also has great info and explanation which include the "sandal" for curled toes

This one may not work as a link but put this in your browser and the site The Chicken Chick should come up. The treatment was successful with mine. Splayed leg treatment took about 2 weeks and curled toes worked in 4 days. When you place the hobble on your chick, make sure you place marbles or small rocks ect in the waterer. The chick will have trouble getting up on its feet at times when it falls over and can drown in a waterer or water bowl. The marbles prevent this!

Good luck with your chick!

I'm really starting to worry.... she's spending a lot of time just laying on her side. She can sit up, but no walking. Any suggestions? I used the bandaid technique Monday evening.

Is she eating, drinking and pooping OK? Mine also had pasty butt with the leg problems...not sure if it was because she couldn't posture correctly to poop(they kinda back up and do that wiggle thing when they go) and it was sticking to her bottom or a result of the hatch, but I had to treat that as well. She won't be able to walk with the hobble(I used the bandaid too) but she should kind of hop around.

Yes. Eating, drinking, & pooping. But we have to bring her to food & water. No hopping :-( how long do i leave on the bandaid

Ok...that is good! I checked my chick every couple of days to see how the legs and posture were doing. Is your chick up on her legs/posture normal with the hobble on it? You want to make sure it can stand and move around still. When you take it off, if the legs are still not in normal position then replace the hobble. Make sure your chick is getting enough food and water. I also gave mine egg yolk mixed in the chick starter during this time to help with energy and digestive issues. If you post up on diseases and illness with your chick and symptoms, others will probably have some tips with feeding that can give your chick more energy. See if your chick is more active when you remove the hobble...that should tell you if it is weak or not moving because of the hobble.

ok. Thank you. I'll try to taking it off. It CAN sit up, but tends to fall to it's left side (did this before the hobble too, it's the bad leg's side). Im pretty sure it also has a foot deformity, but tried the boot and just couldn't get it on. Her foot is too small, and she's too squirmy. I felt like I'd break her foot before I'd be able to get it on there. This may also be why she's having such a hard time, but I'm hoping she can overcome it
