Meet Roxanne! I found her roosting on our trash can Saturday evening and she seems to have taken up residence at our house here in the middle of town. We decided to keep her so my husband built her a coop out of some scrap wood! We are working on a pen now! (I spoke with the city and we can have up to 25 chickens but we must have a covered coop and keep it maintained)

Anyone know what kind is chicken she is? Or if she is actually a she? Any guesses on age?

My husband and I are both registered nurses living in Weston, WV. We have an 11 year old daughter (my step daughter) and an almost 7 month old baby girl. We also have an indoor torti cat named Ginger and a miniature red short haired dachshund named Layla. We love boating, hunting, fishing, gardening, and the outdoors!
 
Roxanne is a Production Red hen, likely well over 2 years old. It may be that she has been discarded by someone because she is past her laying prime. Even so, with good care, you may be able to get another couple of years of decent laying from her. Good luck.
 
She picked your house because she must have known your family is "good people." It is such a shame that people just toss out unwanted animals . Lucky ones come to your house. Welcome to BYC
