My white leghorn made a mess this morning in the coop with the softest egg ever..Ants everywhere, it was a mess.
I cant confirm who this came from, but this was on the ground outside of coop.
Any thoughts?
thanks!

Looks like a round worm to me, a big one. I would get some Wazine and dose them all. Wait two weeks and worm with a broad spectrum wormer like Valbazan or Ivermectin. DO NOT skip the Wazine. With worms that big, you could have an overload of dead worms with the stronger wormers. The Wazine will paralyze the worms and make them turn loose. They will be passed through the droppings. The Valbazan (the one I use) will take care of those worms that are lodged in tissue or are in different areas of the body. If you worm at least once a year after that, you can use the stronger wormer each time. I try to worm three times a year.

Good luck!

Ok.
Thanks for the info.
Your recommending I use Wazine on all of them?

Is Wazine ok for laying hens though? All of my girls lay.

Yes, the first time. It goes in the waterer, so all will be getting a dose. If you worm regularly, you only have to use the Wazine once. I use it on very young chicks, twice, then use the Valbazan after that. If I miss a worming (or two) one year, I will use Wazine first, again, and two weeks later follow up with the Valbazan.

I usually do not like to use any medication that you have to mix with food or water.
I am never 100% confident that each hen is getting what they need, if at all. One of girls is obsessed with water and will literally drink all day if she could. So it will be safe to assume she will get more of a dose than the others, possibly too much.
Then I have girls that barely drink.
Is there not something I can give to her, or all of them just directly?

Wazine is very gentle and I would venture to say that even in large doses, it would not harm your thirsty hen. It works by paralyzing the worms through the gut, not by entering the blood stream or tissues. I would feel safer giving it in water than trying to give concentrated doses by mouth. I know that some people with hold water for a couple of hours before offering the Wazine water for 24 hours then replacing it with plain water. The Valbazan that I use must be given orally so I know who gets their dose. We catch them from the coop, one by one, and give them their dose and turn them loose. I still do not recommend the stronger wormers until after the Wazine.

Do I know the de-wormer is working when the worms pass through and they are dead?
Or does it not matter if they are coming out alive and moving?
They are so disgusting I cannot believe how long they are!

They may be alive after the Wazine, but will be dead after the Valbazan. You won't see so many after the stronger wormer, because they will have started to break down in the digestive system and will not be so recognizable. The ones you see now are likely due to large numbers in that bird. Don't waste time, do it soon.

Time not wasted.
I went and got the Wazine today.
I called the company to confirm dosage because of course the back of the bottle refers to 100 or more chickens.
They recommended I start in the morning.

She must have let out between 7 and 10 worms in one poop this morning each about the size of the photo in my post. eeewwwwwww...

Wish us luck, we will start tomorrow.

thanks again for all your help!!
