My name is Mike, and Im a chicken addict..

I thought I'd go ahead and start a profile here since I've been reading threads daily for months now. I got my first chicks about 3 months ago, Bought 6 from Atwoods to get started - 1 Golden Sex Link - 2 Australorps - 1 EE and 2 unknowns (I plan to put pics of these 2 on here later.) We lost the Easter Egger the 2nd night they stayed outside, as we got a wicked cold spell and did not retrieve the babies quick enough. My children and I love the chickens alot, my wife not so much. But alas, she gave in when I wanted more so we ordered 25 from Efowl (maybe a bit overkill but like I said, Im an addict). My wonderful boys helped pick the breeds so we ordered 15 EEers, 5 Plymouth Rocks, and 5 Jersey Giants. While waiting on the chicks to arrive I picked up 3 Ameraucanas at the local feed store (addiction is a brutal thing...LOL).
Anyway now we have 33 beautiful birds and I am enjoying them so much. My sons and I will catch grasshoppers for hours to feed the chickens, and my oldest has made it his responsibility to feed and water them daily. He is an awesome helper!!
I really enjoy all the helpful info on this site and I am hopeful that one day I'll be able to return the favor to someone else.

God Bless

Hello and :welcome

Oh it sounds like your having so much fun. I have the same problem and my husband said to me yesterday, " is there a reason you need all these?" I looked around at all 45+ chickens and said to him, "nope, I just like them." He just shakes his head and moves along.

Feel free to ask questions as there's many knowledgeable peeps here on BYC! :)

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you are enjoying your flock! Sorry about the one you lost early on. Love your avatar! Ha!

Make yourself at home and if you have any questions, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have put together a nice flock, and should have a very colorful egg basket when they start laying! Sorry about the EE chick you lost.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. We are all chicken addicts here. Sorry about the loss of your EE. It's always sad to lose a member of our flocks. You have a nice mix of breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard breed; very hardy, calm and gentle, and excellent layers of large, brown eggs, and the Golden Sex Link, which is a label used by some of the hatcheries for their Red Sex Links, are egg laying machines. My granddaughter's favorites are the EEs. She loves the colored eggs. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. God bless your family and your flock.
