Chirping
Had posted this problem earlier this spring, and thought this problem would go away by now. But no. My pullets of 1.5 yrs. now young hens are just beaten up on by the rooster(dad) and my 2 black sex links(queens of the herd).
Whenever the young hens come out of the henhouse into the pen or yard, the 3 bad guys jump one of them and peck them forever. My poor young girls look like they got run over by the lawnmower. The other day pancake came out of the pen to graze, the rooster ran over to do his thing, and when she assumed the position, the rooster didn't mount her, but started pecking her in the head. Within 30 secs., the 2 sex links came over and started suit.
I've been keeping and raising chickens for 5 yrs. now and have never seen such mean behavior in a flock. One of my 3 young hens actually jumped ship and commited suicide. (broke out on her own, and must have been gotten by fox).
Anyone ever experience this behavior. I'm afraid they may actually kill the young ones one day.
