Experience with Lantana and chickens?

We have a dry sun-baked slope that we are thinking of planting with Lantana, since it won't need much water and the butterflies and hummingbirds like it. The person who recommended it assured me it is totally safe, but now I'm reading that the green berries are poisonous. Does anyone have lantana with chickens? Do they somehow know not to eat the green berries?

I don't but would be interested to know if anyone does. I have tons of Lantana, which I love for all the reasons you mention, but the ladies are confined to an as yet unlandscaped chicken yard.

I have a few lantana plants in my yard where the chickens free-range. My chickens spend a lot of time lounging in their shade and after nearly five years they haven't yet bothered the leaves or the seeds.
