Did Ideal send me a bunch of extra pullets or packing peanuts (cockerels)?

I've ordered batches of 25 chicks from Ideal on several occasions & they've always put extras in the boxes, but only two or three. Talk about getting your money's worth; if anywhere close to half of all those extra turn out to be pullets you really got a great deal. If don't need or want that many chicks, you can probably sell off the extras & recoup some of your money.

Just curious. Has anyone ever actually received females in the "packing peanuts" with an Ideal Poultry order. If so, how many out of the total your received? It would be interesting to calculate some percentages on this factoring in the time of year...for example, more males in late fall/early winter and more females (or chance of females) in the warmer months.

I would assume that it just depends on whatever they happen to have left. It appeared that last week they had a bunch of extra pullets, as they had a nice last minute special for them on Wednesday. So I assume they just sent you extras.

I have always ordered in lots of 25, as that's the minimum for the specials, and generally, if I order 25 I get 26. If I order 50 I get 52. But not always. A few weeks ago I ordered 45 and got 52 (I was pretty happy about that), while in the same order, I got 25 out of 25 Amerecaunas, and 34 out of 30 meat birds. My last order I ordered 48 and got 50.

Wednesday was my hatch date. Several of the breeds I got were the ones offered in the special.

I got confirmation from Ideal: All extras should be pullets. I guess I won the chicken lotto. When they include males, it's stamped on the invoice and they will all be the same type.

Wow LUCKY! I hope I get extra birds that are NOT males! I'm only ordering bantams though so I really hope they don't mix them with standard sex link cockerals! I'll have some beat up or dead birds =/
