Now I'm worried. I ordered 3 little babies around the middle of July for delivery (hatch date) of August 25th. They shipped out from I believe Meyer's (through My Pet Chicken) yesterday and they were supposed to arrive today by noon. The tracking information hasn't updated since last night around 8:49 pm and then they had just left Cleveland (I'm outside of Philly). I called my post office around 8:15 and they assured me they should be on the express truck today. Well, I just called again and they said there was nothing for me today. Of course, the weather has turned ultra warm again and I'm just so worried that I'm going to open up a box of dead or dying chicks when they finally do get to me. ack. I don't know what to do with myself. I wish I knew where they were at least. Not knowing is the worst. I suck at waiting anyway.
 
They were hatched on the 25th? They will be okay even if they are in shipping one more day, so long as they are handled well by the PO. I have never lost a chick during shipping, and some have been as old as 3 days when they arrived. Just think happy chick thoughts!

Hi! I'm waiting for my baby chicks too...the funny thing is mine hatched yesterday also..and same exact hatchery and info..still "in transit" coming from Cleveland...shipped out lastnight at 8:49 pm...i'm getting worried too

Did your babies get there yet? Mine came this morning, went to the post office bright and early to pick them up! They're in their brooder all cozy and resting now...after a feeding & drinking frenzy hahaha! Two of my little ones didn't make it sadly

but the others seem like little troopers. I'm so excited to be raising chickens again!

Hi, yes they arrived this morning around 10:15 (the tracking still says they are in Cleveland). Two red star babies that are doing fine and one speckled sussex that I do not think is going to make it. She was very weak, and although I did manage to get her to drink a little, she wouldn't eat. She's just laying there and I expect her to go at some point today. I'm torn between trying a whole bunch of stuff on her and then thinking she's already stressed and the best thing I can do is to leave her be. Just watching her and every time the other chicks go to drink, I try to get her to, as well. We'll see. She was the one I was most excited to get, but I'm happy the two fluffy butts are doing well.

Glad most of yours made it though! Sorry about the little ones who didn't. :( I've never had chickens before, so this is all new territory to me. Really excited (and a little nervous).

The two that are doing well are so inquisitive. They both jumped up on my hand when I was trying to get the other one to drink. No fear at all! Even took some crumble from my fingers. haha. Too cute!

Are you giving them plain water? Try giving the Sussex sugar water or water with electrolytes in it. Offer a little yogurt, or scrambled egg. Unfortunately, some chicks just don't thrive, but if you can try to get some calories in her. Best of luck, and sorry about your chick.

I usually start my chicks on electrolyte water and it does help. I've used sugar water in the past as well, with good results. Sometimes chicks just need a little extra help.
 
Hi, I gave them all electrolyte water when I got them home and a little cooked egg yolk a while later. The sussex did drink some of the water, but she wouldn't touch the egg yolk. She has gone from laying down sleeping to standing up, ate a tiny, tiny bit. Now she is just standing there, cheeping but still won't eat and if I try to get her to drink, she rubs her beak on the ground. At least she's standing now.

The other two seem just fine - running around, pecking at stuff, eating and drinking. I'm going to leave her alone for a while just to let her acclimate after her long journey. Maybe she was just more stressed than the other two from the trip.

I may try to feed her some mushy crumble later on. See if she'll take that.
 
Awww..I hope your sussex makes it. I ordered 8 Plymouth Rocks, 8 White Rocks, and 8 Rhode Island Reds. The two little ones that didn't make the trip were White Rocks. This is our second time raising chickens...last time we raised 12 sexlinks (back in 2010.) I'm feeling like a new paranoid parent...always checking the brooder to make sure they are doing good. Hahaha!
