I just got a bag of multipurpose sand and I'm not sure if it is safe for me and my chicks:/:/
I don't know if this type of sand is safe for my chick brooder

It's not the kind of sand that goes into the sand box but I'm afraid of my chicks breathing in too much dust from the sand

if the sand is dusty just get it a little damp and that should be good as I just use sand off the ground and have very little issues with it and the chicks and chickens enjoy playing around in it ...... But it kind of sounds like you have some very fine sand .......

The sands texture feels like the kind you would put in a sandbox. I guess the warning sign is stressing me out a bit

If the sand is clean it should work out just fine for you and the chicks should really enjoy having the sand to scratch and play in .....
I know people use sand in the runs and sometimes on the coop floor but, I don't think they use it in a brooder. I'm thinking the chicks are so low to the ground they would be inhaling more dust from the sand that grown(taller) birds.
You mentioned a "Warning" on it. what does it say???
I would think builders sand would be a bad idea because it probably has other things added to the sand maybe even concrete dust .
The play sand out here is generally labeled "play sand," most sand is also wet in the bags,which makes it weigh more - so you aren't getting as many pounds(sand) as you think. Once it dries it will be much finer and lighter in weight.
