HELP! HELP! HELP!

okay... so I just heard back from the Dr. that is performing the necropsy. She told me that all the nerves in my chicken looked symmetrical, so they are ruling our Mareks. I said "well that's good news, right?" and she responded with "well... I don't know that I would say that just yet".

Sigh... What she told me was the chickens croup was full and that she had some major abnormalities in her liver. It was a very "fatty" liver and has her stumped, so it is going to require further testing. I told the Dr. that I fed scratch feed and the girls free ranged during the day and got treats (raw fruits and veggies) in the afternoon, so I didn't know why her liver would be "fatty". So that is what they are trying to determine.

She then told me that if it's what she is thinking it is, she will be able to see it under the microscope when they dissect the liver. I asked what she was looking for and it's a parasite. I asked "how can that be... I worm the girls regularly" and I was told that with this particular parasite, over-the-counter wormers will not work. That it is a parasite (organism is another word she kept using) that they don't see very often...

Turkeys chickens and earth worms are susceptible to this type or parasite, but she didn't give me a name for it yet. Stand by and I will give the full pathology report when I receive it!

Histomoniasis and the cecal worm is what I think she's gonna say. Wazine will not kill cecal worms, but Safeguard (Fenbendazole) will at 0.5ml per 2.2 pounds. That will treat the worm, but not the Protozoa, for that you need metronidazole (fish-Zole) for five days. Dose is no less than 30mg per 2.2 pounds.
