Sour Crop Blues

This is a good informative thread ..I think and only think my one girl maybe has her crop a lil full ... she doesn't smell at all but just incase I'm gonna leave her in her pen for a few days so she doesn't gobble up too much grass and stuff since I let them all out when I get the chance which was a lot this weekend cause I had off from both jobs ....I'll add some garlic to her water and massage her like i did today just to be sure as well ...she is still pooping and giving great eggs everyday so hopefully this was just a case of overeating

She's gonna hate it since she is the one who sits in the corner of the coop where I come of my backyard door and pretty much yells for me ...she knows lol ...but I gotta be the human mom and do what's best for her

You may hopefully not have a problem because sick chickens "usually" do not lay. But it's good to separate them so you know exactly what goes in and out. I have 2 that walk around with HUGE crops.

thank you for calming my nerves ..I will still continue to watch her as she isnt acting sick and still continues to lay eggs daily ...you did make me feel better : )

Mine are all heavily molting right now, so I do get one or two that keep their distance from the flock, get a bit skinny. Sometimes they won't even take a treat from me. In chicken biology, most (most) chicken bodies will send the protection to the brain, lungs, and heart. The last on the list is feathers and eggs , and possibly energy. Make sure she has food in her crop during the day, and is empty in the morning. If not, message their crop several times a day , (like molding clay) and wet easy digested food.

I do like natural treatments for prevention, such as greens, yogurt, probiotics, vitamins. But when it comes to my girls being sick I will rely on any medicine (antibiotics) because chances are better but not guaranteed that my girls have the best chance not to die.

I don't really believe in Epsom salts for anything but wounds because it's a salt, the rule of osmosis will always mean salty fluid will pull water out of the tissues. I've seen DE help prevent with bugs but not kill worms. DE only helps when it's dry. I don't use Oxine because from the manufacturer's label, it's "Oxine" only when activated. It does next to nothing by itself. All this information may be uneccesary but I like to give as much information as possible . I love my girls.

I read about some using Epsom salts too ...I wouldn't do that out of fear I would dehydrate them ...I tried the yogurt awhile ago and they snubbed it ..I ended up eating it and it really does help with digestion like they say so maybe I'll give it a try again ...I did massage her today and she really liked it sitting on my lap ...she got all cuddly with me ..awww
