Unknown Disease of baby Chicken

The vet must have thought he was quite unwell to say he wouldn't survive a week.

Definitely he could do with at least a week of daily antibiotics, whether natural or artificial (or both). Probably until he clears up and stops coughing or showing respiratory issues, he should stay on antibiotics.

If you can get fresh green grass for him, or sprout some edible seeds for him, that would also help; fresh greens contain chlorophyll which helps detox the body and also gently helps clear the lungs.

His liver will be tired if it's fighting to clear infection from his bloodstream all the time, so fresh greens, well fresh foods of many sorts really, can help it.

Even a raw onion, minced up for him, will help clean his blood; herbs, fruits, vegetables added to his diet can provide a lot of health benefits. (I don't know if you're already adding those to his diet but it can help a lot.)

If he's survived so far, there's a chance, but clearing him of infection must be done. Without infection in the way, the body can heal many terrible wounds.

All that said I don't know exactly what is wrong. I hope he makes it.

Best wishes.

Thanks a lot chooks4life

I am giving him raw onion a lot these days he has started to look better
Chooks4life I need your help in another matter
What breed is this chick
Can it be ayam cemani
I got these eggs from a guy who sold those to me that these are of rare breeds but wasn't sure himself which ones

I'm no pro at telling breeds apart but the stance and shape of the head and body sure do look like possible Ayam Cemani --- but then again there's quite a few breeds that look very similar. You'll need an adult pic I think, or talk to some more experienced pure-bred keepers on this forum. It would help if you knew what breeds the seller keeps.

I just realized, if you can get hydrogen peroxide, just pure with nothing added, and add a small amount to your other (hurt) chick's water, it can clear up internal infections in the respiratory system that pretty much nothing else can budge. Unfortunately many sources of hydrogen peroxide have additives that make them dangerous. You need it pure to help and not hurt.

Best wishes.

I'm sorry but my main experience is with mixed breeds not purebreeds... I've never had Sultans. There will be better sources of info on Sultans around here than I am. ;)

From what I hear, they don't lay much and are pretty much just ornamental. They're supposed to have V-shaped combs, can't quite see if your rooster has though.

Best wishes with them.
