Hi everyone! I have a Cochin hen who is very sweet. About 1-2 years old, She has a big, red, bald, swollen lump under her back end. It's squishy and hot to the touch. I was reading online that it could be vent gleet? I would love to know what it is and how to cure it. Please help!

Vent gleet usually also involves a nasty smelling discharge, you usually see wet, sticky feathers around the back end. If she's dry and just swollen and red she may have ascites and/or peritonitis both of which can have several causes. Is she laying regularly? Any abnormal poop?

I just got her almost a week ago, so no eggs yet. I have seen her have regular poo and then big balls of rubbery poo. She is very active, eats like crazy, and does drink. I put apple cider vinigar with mother into the water, but was thinking I should start putting some duramycin-10 instead. I was also thinking of doing a Epsom salt soak? Idk if that would help or not.
