Container h

I assume you're talking about sea cans, is this correct? I've heard of people doing this but haven't actually had any experience myself. Attached is a link I came across regarding it. Pretty cool idea I must say, especially if you can get one cheap. That being said, in my mind it still seems like it would be lower cost to build a wooden structure of the same dimensions.

Well that can be true n some areas until u start adding n the cost a a foundations and multiple containers on the other side strength a wood frame home won't have that kind of strength that one of my concerns and the cost of building here is roughly around 200 psf so that's where I figure a container home would be cheaper thanx for ur reply though

I always wondered about those container homes. How do you insulate them, properly ventilate or put in doors and windows that are weather tight?

You would still need a foundation ($$) to set the containers on, and cutting and welding on the containers.

Where are you that you are worried about the strength of the building?

Well the beauty of containers mean u could set them on runners the same as mobile homes and cutting and welding isn't all that hard especially where I live with the amount of structural welder a that live in work n this area due to the oil and gas industry and the Gulf of Mexico off shore work. I live n south Louiseana bout 70 miles from the gulf so structural integrity is very important when building so that I only have to do it once. I grew up n Wyoming so I'm no fool when it comes to sever weather so I tend to do the best for what I can afford and the most expensive part of building is exterior and blanking n, with the containers that's all done for me but that's my take on it at least.

I don't think you would necessarily need a foundation for these container houses. My understanding is they are designed to only require supports at the corners, so a pillar system would likely work very well for them. Not 100% on that, but would mean pretty big savings.

Yes very true I was thinking about runners big pillers would be Even better and I have seen it done to some that I have been researching

Yes, thinking more on it, setting the containers on runners and pillars would be a cost savings and probably a good construction choice in your area. Good luck with your project!
