Curious behavior to this newbie??

Mine are five weeks old and already go in and out of their coop on their own.

It's so cute too see them fly out, my coop is a few feet up off the ground, and try and climb the ramp back in.

Spend a few days getting them out on the ground in the morning and putting them up at night. They'll get the hint.

What kind of chickens do you have? I may have to do that.. I know once they start foraging they'll want to all the time :)

OMG! You are in for a terrific bunch of high entertainment when they go outdoors and discover LOW LEVEL FLIGHT! Do try to give them access to ample space in which to do this, even if only for a short while, supervised, of course.

Don't be alarmed when this flight, often covering a span of twenty or more feet, is accompanied by loud, protracted screeching. It's almost as if they are trying to decide to be delighted or scared.

My coop and run is situated on a hillside, and when mine were young, before they put on too many pounds to fly, they would take off from the higher ground and fly a considerable distance and height before gliding to a landing downhill, of course, screeching like banshees the entire distance. Good times.

That sounds like fun LOL I look forward to that sometime. I really am enjoying the growing stages of my chicks and they suprise me with something new nearly daily. I was working in the coop earlier today and they were all huddled in a pile and doing a dust bath. It was so adorable to watch.

Mine are Black Astralorps and one Red Sexlink
