I am confused about blue, self blue and splashes. The more I read, the more confused I become.

I have read the porters stuff.




Is this a self blue? It is actually much lighter in color than the IPhone picture turned out.





Is this a splash because of the black/dark on the tails?



Is this a splash?




And lastly is this a blue or self blue? Again they are all a tad lighter than the IPhone shows.
 
The toms are Splash. How old are the hens? We've had some jennies that appeared to be pale and unspotted but, by the time adult feathering came in at about a year of age? "Splashed".

They are all the same age. I have 2 toms that look just like the hens only bigger and with waddles and longer snoods. They were all early May hatches.

It is hard to see in the pictures but the hens are much lighter in color than the toms shown here.

Thanks for your help. I am trying to decide who gets to breed with who this coming spring. I have 2 toms that look lavender/self blue and 2 that are splashes..


I have two lavender/self blue hens and one splash. 4 toms to 3 jennys, means one of them needs to go to freezer camp.




On a side note I have two red slates (according to porters) a hen and a tom, they will get to breed with each other, I was told they were blues when I bought them. but they changed color over as they aged.
