We have a little terrier who loves eating chicken poop & I'm wondering if it could potentially make a dog sick or transfer some kind of parasite to them. Our dog has had intermittent vomiting and diarrhea over the past week or so and I'm wondering if it could potentially be from the chicken poop.

Our dog used to eat the chicken poop too and he is also a larger dog, and he once got sick from eating too much, so it could possible get your dog sick too if he/she eats too much of it also.

Dogs love to eat poo; it's part of being a dog! Some dogs also like to eat their own, and that's just how it is. Dogs will also eat just about anything else, and really love rotten stuff. They are blessed with the ability to vomit easily, which is a very good thing. Many dogs get sick and can die because of their incredibly crazy eating behaviors! Only separation and supervision (teach the Leave It command) will help. Mary

Most dogs eat poop, any kind of poop....why I don't let dogs lick me.

Doubtful that a mammal would be effected by any parasite that a bird has in its poop...but over indulgence could definitely cause problems.

The worms that infect chickens are mostly specific to birds. Your dog probably will not catch worms from bird poop. If your dog ate another mammal's poop then it would be more likely to transmit worms. However your dog can catch giardia and other protozoans from chickens, which could explain the vomiting/diarrhea. If it has been going on for a week I would get the dog to the vet or at the very least take in a stool sample to be tested.
