Hello- I am a new member and have 4 pullets. Buff Orpington, Golden Sex Link, Silver Lace Wyandotte and Americauna. They are just about 7 weeks old. Yesterday was their first full day/night out in their coop/run. I live in So. Cal so weather is fairly mild but I do have a heat light going in the coop since it's kind of cool at night by our standards. Their coop is actually inside the run. Run is 7'Hx9'W x15'L. Big enough ( I hope) for this to be their 24/7 home.

I am looking forward to reading and learning more, and having fun with my girls!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I've had all four of those breeds at one time or another (actually Golden Sex Links are hybrids, and probably your Ameraucanas as well assuming they are actually Easter Eggers and not true Ameraucanas which are relatively rare and expensive; see http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html). Golden Sex Links are one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are produced by crossing a red gene rooster with a silver gene hen. Not only can the resulting offspring be sexed by color from hatching, but they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. You should get loads of eggs from that pullet.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
