I have 27 bantam silkies and frizzles eggs, today is day seventeen and I was wondering if I should go into lockdown today or 2morrow.....
In previous hatches full sized chickens have hatched as early as day 19..... as the temp in the incubator is obviously higher then what it is showing, I also think the temp varies a little.....
They are currently in an automatic turner, which makes it hard to see any pips...
So not to sure when to lockdown these ones...... If somebody could please help me.....

If you know that your eggs usually hatch early it really wouldn't hurt the eggs to stop turning them at day 17. The chicks should be formed enough by day 17 to not require turning. Some people even stop turning at day 16 and then put the humidity up at day 19 or even when they have their first pip.

Hope you have a great hatch :fl

Thank you...... We just put them into lockdown.....5 weren't fertile and 4 had only half formed.....
So hopefully we will get a good hatch out of the 18 left.....
Thanks again.

Just another question........ I've read the temp should be turned down a little in for the last few days.... is this true ??? If so how much should it be turned down by????

I personally don't turn the temp down at lockdown I keep it just the same and don't have any problems. I believe people's thinking on this is that the chicks in the eggs are producing their own heat so they then turn the temp down. My thoughts on it though are the eggs have got to this stage so why mess with it.
