Rooster walking like a penguin

My Araucana rooster is walking like a penguin. I just came out one morning and he couldn't really walk, and when he did it was upright and waddling like a penguin or a duck. I read another thread where a guy had the same problem and he gave him Ivermectin and it worked like a miracle drug. This did not work for my bird. He has had diarrhea ever since I got him as an 8 week old chick. However, it's only once a day right now as far as I can tell. I don't even know if the two symptoms are related. Maybe he just broke a bone & the diarrhea is unrelated. I don't know. Any ideas?

I have absolutely no idea, maybe hereditary. This may sound dumb, LOL. But are you sure he's a rooster? If he was a hen I would say she can't pass an egg.

Hens frequently walk like a penguin if they have egg yolk peritonitis/internal laying, or as Sem said, egg bound. Could you post another picture of him from the side, maybe let him out of the cage, so he would walk? How old is he? Has he just now developed the "penguin walk?"

Yeah, I was thinking it might be hereditary, too, since he's a pure bred Araucana. He was bred to be rumpless & I wonder if this is one of the results of trying to breed for that trait. When I first inspected him after this started, there was no swelling or seemingly broken bones, but his hip joints did pop a little. Like they were catching on a tendon when he would try to bend at the hip.

I'm 99% sure he's a boy. He's 9 months old. Never laid an egg. He has pointy hackle & saddle feathers and when I have crowing contests with the other roosters he joins in. When he first started walking like a penguin I inspected him for a bound egg just in case, and there was no egg-like mass. His belly is soft. Plus, if he was egg bound I think he would've died by now. I thought of that, too. It seems to be a common reason for this behavior. But no, he's a boy.

I do let him out of the cage daily, but he can barely walk at all now. He mostly just falls. It seems to have gotten worse over time. I'll post a vid.

I just really want to make him better because now that I've brought him inside to nurse him back to health, well, now I love him and he's a pet. But the hubby won't agree to any more vet bills for birds that don't produce eggs.

Oh! I forgot to mention that he is completely alert and eating and drinking normally.

In the video, he looks like his left leg may be lame or paralyzed. I wonder if he could either have Mareks disease, or possibly, a spinal defect or leg bone deformity. Is he sitting on his hocks or elbows? In your video and pictures his feet never look to be side by side, but the left one seems to be either behind him or turned out to the left. Was he vaccinated for Mareks?

I think I would try some multi B vitamins, even generic, and vitamin E. Some birds actually get neuro symptoms due to a deficiency. I'm glad at least he's eating and drinking and crowing.

Could he have some Shamo blood in him?
