HE CAME UP ON MY PORCH!!!

How can I kill him? My chickens, guineas, ducks and geese won't sleep in the coop or run, they sleep on my porch under the lights and the raccoon came up on my PORCH IN THE LIGHTS to try to grab one! If I had still been asleep, he would have gotten another one.

He won't go in the trap, he's trap-smart. HELP?

Can you or a friend shoot him? He will just keep coming back as long as there is a food source.
 
If he would stand still and if he were in an area open enough I wouldn't blow holes in my house or the porch, we sure would shoot him. I don't even care if I blow holes in the coop or God forbid, shoot my own birds but if we could kill him, we would. I had my husband buy me a shot gun so I wouldn't miss the critter and he was worried about my birds. I told him if they have to die and I shoot them while trying to shoot that raccoon, at least we could eat them. Yeah, I know they would have pellets in them but I sure want to make sure I at least sting that raccoon.

You know, I don't even mind sharing with him if he didn't take more than one or two a month but I can't afford for him to have one every night or even every other night.
 
Do you have motion activated lights on your porch? That's the thing to have. I can be sitting there, watching TV, and that light will come on, on the back deck. I go over to the window there, and look out. Now, these coons, when they want something, that light is not going to stop them. I'll see him peeking over the edge of the deck. I'll slowly open the window, and wait for him to fully show himself, then..... scratch one coon. There are a few bullet holes in my back deck, but whatever. I'd rather have that, then garbage spread all over every other night. You have to line up firing lanes, and figure which window you want to shoot from in advance, from where you can blast the coon, without collateral damage, i.e. big holes in your house, or shot birds. You can get the motion light adapters for your outside lights at Lowes. I have shot then at distances of less than 6ft. I mean I'm practically face to face with them, from my window, to the top of the garbage can. If they are intent on something, and you move quietly and slowly, you can't miss.
 
Raccoons are smart, but when it comes to their feeding strategy they are a little too smart for their own good.

Get a Duke Dog Proof Coon Trap.... or three. Bait them with marshmallows. Stake the trap out somewhere where the trapped coon will be unable to tangle the chain up on anything, like a fence or sapling. The next morning you will likely be face to face with your coon or coons. There is also likely a local trapping origination that could recommend someone to catch him (or them) for you for the pelt. A pick handle or perhaps a Louisville Slugger base ball bat is a good alternative to a scatter gun for dispatching trapped coons. It won't bring your dead poultry back to life but you'll at least get to savor your revenge.

No, the motion sensor lights are out back and were there when we bought the house. My husband looked them up the other night and found the kind that you can screw into a light socket for about $20. We are just broke for the rest of the month but we have to do something about it next month because I plan on buying 26 baby standard Cochins and I won't have that critter getting them when they are old enough to go outside.

I thought they were afraid of being seen and if I had lights on all over the place my chickens would be safe, then when they refused to go into the coop or stay in the run but wanted to sleep up here on the porch, I thought they would be safe up close to the doors. He was definitely more than 6 feet from me this morning but I'd say not more than 10. My chickens were screaming, the guineas were screaming, the geese and ducks where honking and hollering. They were so scared. I have a small pen with smaller birds and 3 bantams in it right on the other side of the porch and if I had had the shotgun in my hands, I might have injured them and they had no way to run further away.

I think I am going to have to force them into the coop and then set up out there somewhere to wait for him. There is only one way for him to get into the coop and right now it is blocked off. If I can get them all into the coop, they are safe.

Well, I am angry and I want him dead or gone - never to come back but I don't think I want revenge. LOL My husband didn't want to get the wrist traps because he wanted to trap and release, there is a place where he can take them to release them. He did that with one but I think he has come over to my way of thinking. This raccoon could be the same one, the release area is probably 10 miles away and we didn't have a predator for a couple of months, long enough for it to have found it's way back if it's the same one.
 
Yeah, get them in the coop at night. They will be a lot safer there, than exposed in the open, on the porch. Coons are not afraid of lights, if they have their mind on chicken dinner, or garbage in my case. Goodluck getting that B%*#@*d.

They WILL come back. He probably is the same one. END him.
