Swollen toe :(

Thanks. I have experience. The first girl I worked on had a very deep one and I felt like I was cutting her foot off to dig out the kernel. I then she ended up with two others on the same foot. I thought she was going to be prone to them or something but once I got those cleared up she never had another one and was my longest lived bird from that batch.

It is odd that the girl I need to work on this weekend has had it before as well. I have never heard if some birds are pre-disposed to it, or if this is just coincidental for me.

While reading about it I did see a couple times that the ones who get it tend to be more prone to getting again. Maybe they are the ones who just always get into things they shouldn't be. Who knows?

That last part I believe. Both of mine that have had it can be on the assertive side when it comes to expressing themselves so maybe they just push their feet harder against the ground when they are launching themselves at another bird. Both are/were swift to ensure others stayed in their proper pecking order place and were quite forceful in their swift justice.

Well the one I just did is probably the most neutral one in my flock. She never seems to start trouble with anyone. BUT she was the hardest one for me to get to lay eggs in the coop. She would trudge through the thicket to hide her eggs. And the previous owners were really careless when the put up the barbwire fence around the perimeter. There are short pieces of cut barbwire all over and I suspect she stepped on one. I have stepped on them before and it went straight through my shoe! I keep thinking I got them all only to find another buried under pine needles...
