Hi all, I just started my Compact Back Yard Farm, (lol, I only have 2 acres,) and acquired this pair. Problem is, I don't know what breed of duck they are. They were sold to me as Welch Harlequins, but my neighbor says they are Rouens. Do any of you know? Or am I way off?

They were given to me as a mated pair, however the male like to mount my Peking females as well.

They are welsh harlequins. Just because some one sold them as a "mated pair" doesn't mean much other than you have a male and female. Ducks mate whomever they can, usually as often as they can. Most drakes really need more than one or two ducks as well to prevent over breeding. You got some great looking birds!

Thank you to those of youwho responded. I'm very sad to report, my male went missing today. At least now that I know what breed I'm looking for, I might be able to replace him. Now I just need to figure out how to do this.

I ordered mine from Metzer Farms. It's kind of expensive to just order one or two, though.

I need to ask - what is your security system? If he was taken by a predator, it will be back for the rest.

My ducks are free range, so unfortunately they are vulnerable. But there was NO trace at all of an attack, no noise, nothing, and that was what bothered me most. At night they are completely closed up, but during the day they pretty much go whereever they want.
