This is an ancient thread but I thought I’d comment about ginger reds. I got my foundation stock over a year ago from cackle and they have become some of my favorite birds. These birds have been noticeably different from virtually all others, and I’ve owned hundreds, in terms of their friendliness. I’ve got one adult hen right now that absolutely loves to be held. The baby chicks are not shy of hand and will readily approach you for contact. The 6 in my brooder now are so incredibly low key, no shreaking or loud chirping over absolutely nothing like some breeds. I don’t think they’ve raised their voice over that contented quiet chatter once. I highly recommend ginger reds, particularly the stock from crackle for people wanting a small bird that will readily interact as a sociable pet.
