Hello, I'd be interested to see if anyone has any thoughts/advice on a small-scale emu operation. More than anything, I am interested in potentially raising a small number of emu for personal consumption. I have an allergy that prohibits me from eating any mammals or mammal by-product, and emu is the next best thing for red meat. We don't have a lot of room -- about half an acre or less that could be dedicate to them. Currently, all we have on our property is our chickens, Great Pyrenees and a couple cats, so this is a little out of our comfort zone. I'm just curious if this is even a feasible idea.

I never saw his setup but a co-worker had a pretty sizeable emu operation and I think his property was only an acre. On a half acre of emu pasture you should be fine. I'd do a little research on fencing needs.
Actually there were 4 guys I worked with that raised emus and one also had ostrich.

Gotta be true to my heart:

a half an acre? No.
