15 hens 8 weeks old no eggs

That's great jopheso! I'm new at this, but doesn't that mean as long as she's roosting in her egg, she will not lay any??? Let me know how that went.

My son was cooking eggs yesterday and cracked one of our little quail eggs open to find a double yoke! Is it possible for two birds to hatch from that little bitty egg? They would surely be runts.
 
12 weeks old and we are still only getting three to five eggs from what I thought was 8 hens. I may have more Roos than I thought...
 
to update. the hen gave up on sitting the egg after one day. apparently 24 hours of parenthood was enough for her :)

I got 3 eggs in 4 days and none yesterday or this morning. Is protein the biggest factor in egg production? I have a large back of the chick feed which is actually pretty high in protein as in 28% I believe. I think I will switch them to that since I am out of the layer feed and have like 40 pounds of the chick.

Theyll lay on chicken food (even though its like feeding them only top ramen forever) so no protein isnt the biggest factor.

The biggest factors are stress and light hours.
 
hmm..well I think they are pretty happy...they lounge around a good bit stretching their legs and wings...they have diatemcious(sp?) earth for dust bath now, straw on top of the ground. in south Louisiana we have 13.5 hours sunrise to sunset right now, which prolly equals 14-15 hours of actual light in the sky.

They don't really fight and no one is missing feathers, are there any other physical manifestations of stress I could watch for?
 
I had to time out both my males in my cage and the hens started laying the next day. Sit and watch for an hour or two and see how they act. Sometimes it's just one male or female that is stressing them out...
 
We have eight females (I think) and they were only laying two to three eggs daily for a couple weeks. They are just now starting to lay 4-6 eggs a day. I think it takes them a few weeks to really start laying regularly. Just my guess from what my birds are doing.
 
I got 5 quail almost by accident... Anyway theu werent sexed and for the past month or so I was almost CONVINCED we had 5 boys... Until yearerday... I was putting all my birds up for the evening and walked by the quail "house".... Low and behild one of them laid the prettiest little speckled egg!!!!
