So, I have a bunch of eggs in the incubator. Out of curiosity, 2 were from the fridge (no, not store bought!). 1 was in for only a day, the other for about a week. Today is day 5 & both have veins! I'm shocked! Anyone else try this out of curiosity?

yep i hatched a runner duckling from a fridge egg. It had only been in the fridge 24 hours though. I have five more eggs in the incubator, two are from the fridge so we will see. Good luck with yours :)

I stuck them in there because not only would I like pullets from this hen, but I was super curious. As soon as my mail eggs came in I pulled the 2 fridge eggs out & they all sat together for about 20 hours before incubation. The week old fridge egg really shocked me!

Let me know how it goes. I will be candling mine in the next two days so I will see if they are growing too :)

well, at day fourteen, I have discarded both of the fridge eggs to a blood ring in each. So its not impossible because my last hatch included one fridge egg whichhatched successfully but i think the cold makes them more susceptible to bacteria.

My next to the last hatch I did I also had used two fridge eggs, both ee. I wish I had checked the air cells before I had put them in , but I didn't until 24 hours later and one had a real wonky air cell. (I would have chosen a different one.) Both started developing. The one with the wonky air cell was an early quitter, end of first week. The other made it all the way to lockdown and was rocking at day 19/20, but never hatched. When I did eggtopsy I found an ee/nn chick, fuly formed, in position yolk absorbed, no shrink wrap, no extra fluid and no idea what happened. I had only 3 that did not hatch, the other two I could hypothesize as to why, not that one.

One of my fridge eggs hatched! The second was a late death, looked like day 17. I'm not really sure what happened. I had a non fridge egg die during hatching. Poor little thing pipped & zipped the shell, but never zipped the membrane. Whish I had been there to help. :-( So far, 7 have hatched, all a day early. Today is day 21. I'm waiting to see if 8 others will hatch, 7 mail ordered, 1 of my own ..... & it's a hard wait! I've thrown out 11 mail order for not developing, & 2 of my own. Another mail order was an early death, day 7 I think. Last year I hatched out 5 of my own & all made it ..... I guess I should consider myself lucky for that!

Congrats!! When I stuck my two fridge eggs in a couple hatches ago the one was an early quitter not surprising after seeing the air cell, but the other made it all the way to day 19/20 and quite. I wonder if being refrigerated makes them weaker. You'll have to keep us posted on the chilly little hatcher and how it does growing.

Well done :)

I'm about to put 12 runner ducks in, one of those was in the fridge for 24 hours. (Teenage son didnt listen to instruction - no real surprise there!). Fingers crossed I get a full hatch ;-)
