Hi all
im trying to hatch for the first time, I bought an incubator its 42 eggs automatic egg turning I put in it 15 chickens eggs from my flock and 8 genie fowl eggs. 6 days later my friend sent me some chicken eggs and turkey eggs I had to put them all together. I decided to try and make my first home made incubator and after 12 light bulbs try I found out that th 13 W ace hardware works better. and im happy to report that today out of my 15 eggs 7 hatched today 1 I think its dead he was the first to pipe almost 2 days ago and when I came to my bedroom at 2 am 3 other piped maybe one hatched by now its 2:30 am now.

my question when to move them to the brooder?

here are the photos of my incubators:

this is the first one to pipe is it dead it looks dry

this is the chick that hatched from the smallest egg he s the first one to hatch

the small egg its from 4 months old hen

thank you

That one that has started to zip and the membrane is yellow- I'd pull him and and help him if he's still alive. It looks as though he's being glued by the drying out of the membrane. Wet it and seperate it if you can. As for when to move that's a personal decision. Some of us move our chicks to the brooder during the hatch and others wait until all chicks have hatched. If you have a good amount of humidity (above 65%) and the bator recoups humidity quickly then it shouldn't be a problem if you want to move them. If not they can stay in the bator up to three days after they hatch.

What happened with the one that had partially zipped????

he was dead when I tried to wet him and open the shell :( 4 new hatched today total of 12 out of 15 and I just looked at the last 2 eggs before I came to bed they are still not piped and I think they also dead I did the water candling test they did not move in the water they are 1 day overdo. its 2:30 am hopefully im wrong and when I wakeup they will be hatching.

thank you for asking

And congrats on the hatchers!

how is yours did they all hatched.. is this the first time you also hatch or not? I was wondering they are 3 days old now should I give them any kind of medications or vaccinations or vitamins? non of my 15+ chickens vaccinated or given any kind of medication I just put garlic in their water every months and every 4 or 5 months I put ginger in their water also I give them Basle levees to eat every 2 weeks when its time to trim the Basle plants I planted on one side of their coop. but all of them was raised buy brooder chickens this is my first incubation try.

My hatchers are a week and a half old now. I had 36 eggs go into lockdown and 33 hatched. (One hatched before it was ready and had a ruptured yolk sac and too much active veins and ended up dying. I was very pleased with the outcome of the hatch. Thanks for asking. No this wasn't my first hatch I started hatching last fall. Not too many backyard chicken raisers that I know vaccinate. Some of them that buy chicks from hatcheriess might have them vaccinated for Mareks, but I don't see too many that vaccinate their own hatched chicks. None of mine are. I do use the medicated feed for the first week or two. ( I buy a bag of the medicated starter crumbles and start them off on that and when it's gone I switch to regular starter crumbles.)
