My greatest thing I've learned is that actually owning chickens will give you a lot of info. Supply them with the basic needs- a nice coop with at least 4 sq ft per bird, clean and fresh food and water, the occasional (but not too much) treat, and definitely lots of love. Please post any questions you may have.

I have currently just bought a warren that is my first chicken as I didn't want to get too many as I'm not confident I know that much,it will be arriving tommorow

One chicken living alone will not be happy. They need flock mates. Can you change your order to at least 3 birds? Keeping chickens isn't rocket science. Feeding/watering a flock of 3 or 4 will be no different than caring for an individual and the annoying distress callig will be far less.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. I agree with keesmon; you should get more than one chicken as chickens are gregarious and like company. Warren is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are hybrid, egg laying machines. Speckled Sussex would be a good breed to keep with your Red Sex Link (Warren) as SS are a friendly and gentle breed. Definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there that will keep you from making beginners' mistakes. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your flock.

Thanyou everyone for your help, glad there's sites like this also I will be getting my chicken at 20wks old what would be best to feed them
