Hi All,
We have 17 beautiful 2 week old girls (Barred Rocks, Orphingtons, Rhode Island Reds) that we ordered from a hatchery, and while at the feed store today I saw they had "Americanas" and I couldn't help myself so I bought 5 of them. They can't be more than 3 days old. Now I have them home, in a separate makeshift brooder, and my questions is- when would you put them in with the other girls? I want to protect my 2 week olds from any diseases, and I want to protect the tiny ones from being bullied or stressed. There is quite a size difference! TIA! :)

My new (chicks) additions 5 1/2 week olds and 4 week olds are in the same big 150 gal brooder. But I have them separated with chicken wire since the big ones (4) are bullying the new ones (10) immediately as I got them together a month ago. I have trial mixed them together few times while am watching them but the difference in size is a factor since the older ones almost double the size don't let the young ones eat. I got 2 water and food container. Would be so interesting soon when I mixed up the three flocks in the coop and run, I also got (10) 1 year old layers.

Here's the set up in the brooder, I originally had the " Berlin Wall"open @d bottom so little ones can escape back and forth but decided to brick d bottom cause of bullying.

Thanks! I was a little concerned about potential for spreading any disease, since I got them at an Orscheln where apparently no one knows anything about the poultry or poultry supplies they carry, and there was no way I was going to get any answers- it was an impulse buy, and I hope I don't regret it. To top it off they aren't even EEs- pretty sure after some quick research they are Australorps & SL Wyandottes. Even though I'll be happy to raise them,& those were two breeds I was hoping to have some day, I wasn't really NEEDING to add more to my flock right now, just wanted the novelty of the EEs. So I certainly don't want to hurt my girls with disease or stress or anything else, just because I was silly & fell for the "cute little chicks" trick when all I needed was cat food. Sheesh.
