my 6 week old chicks are in their new home. But are staying in the run and not venturing into the coop. I tried putting them all in the coop they just run right back out. It is pouring today. They have a roof for some cover but I am worried if we have a nasty spring storm. Will tyey just figure it out on thier own?

Shut them in the coop for a few days until they learn where food, water, shelter and a safe sleeping area are. Then when you let them out, monitor them for a few days to make sure they go in at night, and when it rains.

Did you try keeping them locked in the coop for few days before opening the door and let them into the run?
This is what it is normally done when you move chicks into their new home. They have to learn that their new home is safe and to learn that they have to be in it for 4 or 5 days. It has always worked for me. It also helps to keep a light in the coop so they can see around. I use 2 night lights (9 watts) It all depends on the size of your coop.

Good luck!!!

I kept mine in the coop "brooder" I made almost their entire life as a chick and they still would either stay in the coop all day even with it open or If I got them out they would just stay outside. As chicks they are a bit clumsy so a walk board (which mine has) is a new obstacle they have to learn. I wait till almost dark and pick them up one by one and walk them up the walk board into the coop. With it almost dark they tend to stay put wherever you put them. I also used this method to teaching them to walk down the board in the morning. It's been about a week and they all come down on their own in the morning. Going to bed is still a daily thing. One figured it out today and yesterday.

Maybe you can bribe them? Like you could drop a few vegetables or some grain in the coop and then they may realize how cool it is in there!

My chickens LOVE mealworms, maybe that would work?
By the way, I love the coop! It's adorable!

I took mine out to their coop and run during warm days.. took them back inside the house at night.. cause it was real cold at nite till recently.
finally decided they could stand night time temperatures of high 40s or so... the seven Girls are now 2 and 1/2 months old.
The first nite I had to put them personally into their coop and put them on their roost.. had to do this for like 2 or three nites. Then later they went on their own. Oh one night we were past dark when we got back home they were cuddled all Seven of them in a corner of their run. This was before they spent their first night in their coop . also had a covered Big animal carrier in their run they would go to some during their days outside. but they could not see when it got dark.. so they were used to us taking them back in the house each nite.... I was so surprised they were scared and never went to the cozy animal carrier.....that night......
it was so great to see them go up that tall ramp on their own and jump up on their little roost that first time. It was also so neat to see them exit their coop that first morning after the first night. Most fly out the door in the morning. their "tractor" looking coop porch and door is prob 4 feet of the ground. whole thing is surrounded by a hardware cloth covered two dog kennels together.
I read about locking in coop for day or so ,but mine it was not necessary... since they were used to being their during warmer days.... I just could not imagine doing so....
Just my experience

they'll figure it out, but they really aren't bothered by being out in the rain. If it was too much for them, they'd go back in.

I will say that it did take mine a few days to figure out going back in at night. I think the light inside might help, because these seemed to stay out until the very last bit of daylight, by then it was darker inside than it was outside and they wouldn't go back in. I turned the heat light on for a few days just before dark, now there's no problems, they'll all be inside in plenty of time
